Why These Picks?
BKN Nets v ORL Magic: The Magic have put less than 103 points on the board in their last 2 outings, and while I don’t doubt they’ll be decent against Brooklyn’s lack of defense, I simply don’t trust the Nets to crack 100 points here (or anywhere, to be honest). The last time these two teams met, the total finished at 107…and that was WITH the game going into OT. To boot, the last 4 straight meetings have fallen under 215. I’m on the Under to cash.
WAS Wizards v DET Pistons: The Pistons have put at least 120 points on the board in their last 4 straight meetings with the Wizards. In addition, they’ve put more than 120 points on the board in each of their last 3 outings, while Washington has allowed their opponents to score 130+ points in 2 of their last 3 games. With Detroit at home, I don’t doubt their ability to run away with this matchup (despite the Wizards bagging a few wins over their last 5 games). My money’s on Detroit to put at least 121 on the board.
CAR Hurricanes v NY Rangers: While the Rangers have lost 8 of their last 10 games, 3 of their last 4 have cashed the Over. NY clearly has a tough time winning, but they’re still putting just enough on the board to participate in higher-scoring affairs. On the other side, the Hurricanes have also cashed the Over in 3 of their last 4 outings. While I love Carolina to bag a win here, it’s simply not worth it to take the ML (and their last 3 victories have been by just 1…) I’ll toss a sprinkle on the Over to hit.
PIT Penguins v BUF Sabres: I love this matchup, friends. The Over has cashed in 3 of their last 4 meetings, and their last 4 straight encounters have seen at least 6 goals. It’s Over or nothing for me, here – my money’s on a high-scoring affair.
