Why These Picks?

PIT Pirates v CHI Cubs: This was a surprise to me, friends – but the Under has cashed in the last 4 straight encounters between these two squads, and Chicago has only actually won 1 of their last 5 encounters with Pittsburgh by 2+ runs. That said, it also looks like the Pirates will be running a bullpen game (Braxton Ashcraft typically only pitches 2-3 innings), and the Cubs are at home. Hilariously, the one game in which the Cubs smoked the Pirates by 5 runs was also started by Colin Rea (4.09 ERA) and get this…Paul Skenes?! I’m on the Under to cash, but I’ll also roll the dice on the RL given the latter stat.

MIL Brewers v CIN Reds: I don’t love a -140 return, but I’d throw down on Milwaukee to win outright at this price. At the time of writing, the only reason I’m not grabbing the RL is because the Brewers have yet to announce their starting pitcher, and Reds starter Nick Martinez’s (4.49 ERA) last 5 straight starts have resulted in a win for Cincinnati. That said, Milwaukee’s offense has been damn near untouchable having won their last 12 straight games. I’ll take the Brew Crew to bag another victory.

PHI Phillies v WAS Nationals: The Phillies offense has been a no-show for most of this week, and they somehow managed to take an L at the hands of the Nationals in the first game of this series yesterday. Today, Philly will start Zack Wheeler (2.68 ERA), who has had a rough couple of outings lately. On the other side, Washington starter MacKenzie Gore has allowed 14 runs in his last 3 outings. To be frank, if Philly’s offense was what we all know it to be right now, I’d be hammering the Over. But 6 of their last 7 games on the road have seen the Under hit;  I say the Under cashes again assuming Wheeler can pitch a solid game.

NY Yankees v STL Cardinals: This should be a high-scoring game, betting fam. Both of Luis Gil’s starts so far this season have seen at least 9 runs, and you all (surely by now…) know how I feel about Andre Pallante (4.95 ERA) who has allowed 8 ERs in his last 2 outings. Despite the Cardinals offense being lacklustre lately, they should bag enough runs over Gil to push this total to at least 9. I say the Over hits here, friends.
