Why These Picks?
TB Rays v CIN Reds: This victory belongs to the Rays, friends – I just can’t get on board with Brady Singer (4.84 ERA). The Reds have lost 4 of Singer’s last 5 starts, and Tampa Bay starter Shane Baz (4.66 ERA, 8-6) has, at least, been decent on the road with an Away ERA of 2.91. While I'd agree that neither starter inspires a ton of confidence, I think the Rays avoid getting swept. I'm on Tampa to win.
TOR Blue Jays v DET Tigers: The Blue Jays offense is just too good, betting fam. Toronto is on a ridiculous heater, and I highly doubt Detroit starter Jack Flaherty (4.77 ERA) is where they decide to put the brakes on. 4 of Flaherty’s last 5 starts have resulted in losses for the Tigers, and 4 of Blue Jays pitcher Max Scherzer’s (5.14 ERA) last 5 outings have seen at least 9 runs. I know Detroit’s offense has been rough, but Scherzer has allowed 4 HRs over his last 2 starts – I think they get enough on the board here to push this total Over 8.5. To be frank, I won’t be surprised if Toronto bags 7 of the runs by themselves. My money’s on the Over to cash. As for a winner, there’s no way I’m betting against the Blue Jays offense – especially when the Tigers have all but been a sleep for the past 14 games. I say Toronto bags the sweep.
NY Mets v SF Giants: The Mets & starter Kodai Senga vs the Giants bullpen? I’ll bite. Relief Pitcher Matt Gage is listed to start for the San Fransisco, but Gage never pitches more than two innings – and thus, it’s highly likely that the Giants will cycle through their bullpen today. Meanwhile, Kodai Senga (1.79 ERA) is undoubtedly one of New York’s best starters. Senga’s last 5 starts have resulted in a win for the Mets, I don’t think today will be any different. Take the Mets to bring home the win.
