Why These Picks?

PHI Eagles v WAS Commanders: The last two meetings between these squads cashed the Over in spades, and at the moment, I don’t know if I can trust Philly to keep Washington at bay. The Commanders have been abysmal, but QB Marcus Mariota was finally able to steer the ship in a good direction last week and put 29 points on the board against the NY Giants. And, in case you forgot, Mariota was also able to get 26 points past the formidable Denver Broncos defense just a few weeks back. While the Birds haven’t been their usual Super Bowl-contending selves this last month, Washington has allowed a staggering 79 points over their last 3 games, and I think they’ll be able to pull off more than a TD or two themselves. NY Islanders v BUF Sabres: The Sabres have been on a tear having won their last 4 straight games. On the other side, the Islanders can’t feel good about last night’s game against the Canucks. Despite being on a back-to-back, I have a feeling NY’s offense will come ready to play this afternoon, and I don’t doubt the Sabres will put more than a few on the board. My money’s on this game to see at least 6 goals.

CHA Hornets v DET Pistons: I both love and hate this pick, ha ha! I hate that I’m putting even a tiny bit of trust in the Hornets, but love that the data supports it. Not only has Charlotte has covered 10.5 in their last 4 straight meetings with Detroit, but they haven’t lost by more than 10 in their last 4 straight games – hell, they’ve even pulled off a couple of upsets (including one over the Cavaliers). I know the Pistons’ defense is elite, but history says  the Hornets can keep this one relatively close. I’ll take the visitors to cover.
