Why These Picks?
MIN Timberwolves v ORL Magic: The Timberwolves have dropped 3 of their last 4 games, friends. And to be fair, they’ve been playing some tough teams…but losing to the 76ers by double digits is where I draw the line. The Magic have won 4 of their last 5 outings, and stomped a formidable Detroit defense by a solid margin just a couple of days ago. Orlando’s most recent meeting with the Timberwolves was just last month in Minnesota – the visitors won by 27. With the Timberwolves coming into this game down some of their best players, on the road, and on a back-to-back...I’ve gotta put my money on the Magic to cover this evening.
POR Trail Blazers v SA Spurs: I’ll be honest – this game could go either way simply because both teams are perfectly capable of putting points on the board… But I like a low-scoring affair. The Trail Blazers have managed to stay under 229 in 3 of their last 4 outings, and the last 4 straight meetings between these two squads have either limbo’d under this number or hit it bang on. Portland isn’t nearly as dominant on the road, and the Spurs' defense is top-tier. I’ll toss a sprinkle on the Under to cash.
STL Cardinals v WAS Nationals: While I do like Michael McGreevy better than Miles Mikolas, his performance on the road so far this season has been rough. McGreevy is sporting a 2.73 ERA overall, but a 5.79 ERA on the road. The sample size at the moment is small, I know – but Washington has also been putting a wild number of runs on the board lately (the Over has cashed in their last 6 straight games). I can’t imagine this encounter sees less than 9 – I’m on the Over to hit.
