Why These Picks?
PHI Phillies v PIT Pirates: The Phillies have had a rough couple of weeks friends, but that changes today. Starter Ranger Suarez (2.72 ERA) is a cool 4-0, and each one of his logged wins has seen the Phillies claim victory by at least 2 runs. Suarez has only allowed 4 runs across his last 5 outings; I think he’ll do more than enough to keep Pittsburgh in check here. On the other side, Pirates starter Andrew Heaney (3.39 ERA) has allowed 7 runs in his last two outings, and 4 of his last 5 outings have seen Pittsburgh take an L. Even with Bryce Harper out of the lineup today, I still think Philadelphia turns up and covers the RL here.
SD Padres v MIL Brewers: Both Kolek & Quintana have pitched some great games – and both have had a “meltdown game” in their last 3 outings. So long as they both don’t decide to pull a meltdown today, the Under should cash. Quintana has only allowed 1-2 runs in 4 of his last 5 starts, and while Kolek had a solid outing against San Francisco last week, he’s allowed 14 runs over his last 4 starts. I’m on the Under to cash and on Milwaukee to bag a win.
HOU Astros v CLE Guardians: It feels like just yesterday that I was roasting Hunter Brown (1.83 ERA) for allowing the Kansas City Royals to get 9 runs past him in the 1st inning – ahh, memories! Two years later, Brown has become a reliable starter. I feel like a proud baseball parent! Having allowed just 7 runs over his last 5 games, I think Brown will keep the Guardians in check here. That said, I expect a low-scoring affair, as Cleveland’s Gavin Williams (3.79 ERA) is pretty capable himself these days. I’m on the Astros to lock down a win on the road and on the Under to hit.
