Why These Picks?

CHI Cubs v WAS Nationals: I’ve gotta take the Cubs here. While Washington starter Trevor Williams (5.69 ERA) had a nice outing against the Mariners, he allowed 16 earned runs in his 4 games prior to that. Meanwhile, Chicago’s Cade Horton is 2-0, and each of his starts this season has resulted in a Cubs victory. My money’s on Chicago to cover the RL for a nice price on the road.

PHI Phillies v TOR Blue Jays: 4 of Bowden Francis’ last 5 outings have resulted in game totals of at least 9 runs; with a 6.43 Home ERA, I think there’s a good chance he lives up to that statistic today. Having said that, the Blue Jays have won their last 5 straight games and their offense has been absolutely cooking having bagged at least 8 runs over 4 of those 5. Curious as I am to see who comes out on top for this encounter, I don’t doubt that the Over cashes.

TEX Rangers v TB Rays: Both of today’s pitchers are incredibly capable; I expect both squads to struggle to put runs on the board. 4 of both Tyler Mahle (1.64 ERA) & Drew Rasmussen’s (2.33 ERA) last 5 outings have seen game totals of Under 6 runs. Expect this encounter to be a bit of a pitching duel. I’m on the Under to hit.

BAL Orioles v SEA Mariners: I don’t love the Orioles offense – but Mariners pitcher George Kirby (11.42 ERA) has only had two starts and both of them saw him earn at least 5 runs with final game totals of at least 9. Kirby’s last start saw Seattle get shutout by the Washington Nationals 9-0; if the Orioles are going to put runs on the board, George Kirby is probably their best chance to do that. On the other hand, I fully expect the Mariners to take advantage of Baltimore’s lacklustre bullpen in the later innings. Take the Over to cash here, friends.
