Why These Picks?
CHI White Sox v NY Mets: 9 of the last 10 encounters between these two teams have seen 8 runs or less; that’s an overwhelming statistic. On the mound, Tylor Megill (3.56 ERA) is one of New York’s best pitchers, and while Jonathan Cannon (3.76 ERA) is no ace, he’s one of the White Sox’s stronger arms. Between today’s two starters and an extensive history of low-scoring meetings, I’m on the Under to cash.
CIN Reds v KC Royals: I stayed off of this matchup yesterday, but today? I can't resist throwing down on this pitching matchup. Kansas City starter David Lynch is an impressive 3-1 with a 1.57 ERA against Cincinnati's Brady Singer (4.88 ERA, 5-3). That said, Singer's Away ERA presently sits at 6.66. My money's on the Royals to turn up & bag a home win.
ATL Braves v PHI Phillies: I love this pick due to my dislike for the bullpens on both sides of this wager. While I think both squads will bag a few runs early, I have a feeling the later innings are going to see a healthy number of runs hit the board. I've gotta go with the Over.
SF Giants v DET Tigers: I just can’t get behind the Tigers with Jack Flaherty on the mound; the man is 2-6 going up against San Francisco’s Logan Webb’s 5-4 this afternoon. Meanwhile, the Giants have alternated wins & losses over their last 7 outings. Despite the Giants’ offense not being as consistent as I’d like it to be, Detroit’s batting lineup has also cooled off quite a bit over the last couple weeks. My money’s on the better pitching staff today, friends – take SF to win.
PIT Pirates v ARI Diamondbacks: Corbin Burnes (2.73 ERA) vs a rookie and the Pirates offense? I’ll bet. This should be a comfortable victory for Arizona, betting fam. To be fair, Mike Burrows (7.20 ERA) has only had one outing so far this season – and I might’ve taken my chances on him if Pittsburgh’s batting lineup was stronger…but Corbin Burnes is just too dialled at the moment. I imagine today’s encounter will go a lot like yesterday’s did (the Diamondbacks won 5-0). I’m on Arizona to cover the RL.
